A Night With The Migos: Community, Creativity, and Support for Independent Film in Oakland

On Friday, August 22, 2025, PepFilmStudios hosted A Night With The Migos, an unforgettable evening of community, music, and art in Oakland. More than 50 people gathered to support PepFilmStudios’ feature film The Migos while enjoying a night of open mic performances, special guests, and connection.

A Celebration of Local Talent

The night kicked off with complimentary food and drinks as guests settled in for a 30-minute DJ warm-up. Hosted by Simone Lingrid, the program featured five rounds of open mic performances with artists including Tina, Saankofa, Khalibud, Lanea, Matteo, Erik, Brown Eyes, Tenesha, BriTheGiant, Amanda, Legendary Mo, SauceKeepRiffin, Shawn, Lawrence, Jomor, Bonnie, and SarahBe.

Between rounds, the audience was treated to appearances by special guests such as Oakland District 4 Council Member Janani Ramachandran, comedian Lady Roc, and Rahsaan Thomas all showing love for the Bay Area creative scene.

More Than Just a Fundraiser

Though the event raised $500 in donations for PepFilmStudios’ upcoming projects, the real success was in the energy of the night. The strong community support, the laughter, the performances, and the people who showed up to celebrate independent filmmaking in Oakland mattered more than the dollar amount.

“The vibe was great. It wasn’t just about the money, it was about the people and the movement,” shared Derrick Peprah, founder of PepFilmStudios.

What’s Next for PepFilmStudios

The funds will go toward The Migos, PepFilmStudios’ first feature film, now in post-production. With the trailer already surpassing tens of thousands of views online, momentum is building for the film’s release.
